  • This is What a Championship Softball Team Looks Like

When the softball season began in May, we were fairly confident that The Old Gold would be open within weeks. Worst case, the bar would be open by the playoffs. But after a dismal 0-3 start, Team Old Gold wasn't really thinking about the postseason, we just wanted to win a single game.

    And we did.

In fact, we reeled off nine consecutive victories to finish the season 9-3 in the finest of Portland bar leagues, Sunday Softball. We toppled The Vern in the first round of the playoffs, survived a close call against defending champs The Willamette Week, beat The Matador in the semifinals, and then sneaked past Disjecta in the final game.

13 consecutive wins and a championship trophy—not bad for a team named in honor of a bar that has yet to actually open. Once we do open—soon, we promise—the majestic trophy will be on full display.
