Hello friends and patrons of The Old Gold. A year ago this time we were little more than a dilapidated shell of a service garage and a dream; a dream of so much whiskey it eclipses an entire wall, a dream where champagne appeared at the push of a button, and a dream to drink in Oregon. We opened our doors on October 28, 2011, fulfilling all our dreams (and hopefully a few of yours as well). Now that we are a year older and wiser—so that’s how you make a gin and tonic—it’s time we celebrate. Here's a day-by-day breakdown.
Friday, October 26
The workweek is mercifully over, so roll on in for the start of our anniversary festivities. Since we love our hops, we'll be featuring a pair of rare beers on tap: Boneyard's "Aleious" Wheat IPA (their collaboration with John Harris of Full Sail) and the fantastic Double Mountain Dunkelweizen.
Saturday, October 27
In the afternoon we'll be pouring the finest of barreled spirits in our sold out Whiskey 101 class. Complete with varied tastings of whiskeys the world over (from Kentucky Bourbon, to Irish, to Scottish, and more), this class will make you an expert on all things whiskey. Since this class sold out so quickly, we'll be hosting another on Saturday, December 1st.
Also, while tonight is technically not Halloween, it’s most likely the best chance for you to hit the town in your Honey Boo Boo outfit (sorry, did we ruin the surprise?). In honor of All Hallow's Eve, we’ll be dishing out candy-themed cocktails all night long. Also, we promise not to play "Monster Mash" on the stereo. That song is terrible.
Sunday, October 28
Our one year anniversary! Did you know that today is International Champagne Day? Well it is. After a quick private event we’ll be open at 1pm with food and drink specials all day long. We’ll also be popping plenty of corks with our anniversary champagne menu (and rolling back prices to the year 2011).
Tuesday, October 30
Why, it’s our monthly trivia night, O’Trivia Newton-John! You don’t have to be a whiz kid to know that O’TNJ is chock full of fun questions, trivia teams, and some ridiculous prizes. Fun starts at 8pm, but arrive a bit earlier in order to grab a table.
Wednesday, October 31
Not only is it Halloween, it's the start of the (sure-to-be-scary) Portland Trail Blazers season. Since it might be a long year for the home team, you'll be happy to hear that we are bringing back the classic Rip City pint glasses. $2 Rainiers all season long. You're going to need them.
Well, I think we covered it all. Thank you very much for a wonderful first year.
