• We Are Four Years Old

Four years? Four years! It's tough to fathom, but it's true, the Old Gold is four years old. We are older, wiser, and more handsome than ever before. And we owe it all to you. Come celebrate on Sunday, October 25th, where will be grilling up some food specials, pouring some special beers, offering Happy Hour pricing, doling out free gifts, and more throughout the day.

In all seriousness, we are in awe of each and everyone that makes this place so special. Please come by and celebrate with us.

  • Whiskey 101: An Exploration of American Whiskey

It's time you lean about whiskey.
And we'd be glad to teach you.

We're pleased to announce Whiskey 101: An Exploration of American Whiskey on Saturday, November 7 at 1pm at Paydirt (our 'lil sister bar, now open at 2724 NE Pacific St). This interactive class will cover the origins, styles, and varieties of American Whiskey. This includes bourbons, ryes, and plenty more. Yes, you'll get to drink as you learn, as host/professor Andrew Finkelman helps you learn more about the most fascinating spirit on your liquor shelf.

The class runs $35, which includes about a half-dozen tastings, plus some snacks as well. To purchase a spot in this soon-to-be-sold-out class, click here

  • Come Watch the 49ers!

As we've proudly done in previous years, we will be broadcasting every single San Francisco 49'ers game this season. Currently undeafeted at 1-0, the Niners are well on their way to a perfect 16-0 season and Super Bowl victory [editor's note: Please take this post down if they lose a game], and no better way to celebrate this soon-to-be-historic run than with a Bacon Bloody Mary in hand at the Old Gold.

  • Let's Help Sean

As previously mentioned here, our friend/bartender Sean Knudeson was involved in a tragic car accident last week. Still hospitalized, Sean's family has setup a recovery fund and released this information on his condition.

While he is currently undergoing surgeries and recovering in the ICU at PeaceHealth Medical Center, he has an extremely long and difficult journey ahead of him. His condition is stable and his amazing team of doctors is estimating that his broken pelvis and tailbone, fractured ankle, and shattered left elbow will take several months of patience and therapy before he is able to stand again. Sean will be in a wheelchair until his pelvis, tailbone, and ankle heal enough to begin therapy to walk again. This is a very long road to recovery, but he will make it!

On Monday July 6, we will be donating all sales to help fund Sean's recovery. 100% from every drink, every meal, and every pour of whiskey will go to helping Sean. Please come out for this very personal and worthwhile cause.

  • Sean Knudeson

Sean Knudeson, a bartender here at the Old Gold, was involved in a head-on collision on Wednesday, June 24 on Highway 14, just east of Washougal, WA. As of right now, Sean in stable condition at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, but a pair of passengers in the same vehicle died in the accident.

Frankly, we're not quite sure what to say here.

As a neighborhood bar, we are trivial in our very nature. We immerse ourselves in whiskey and sandwiches, we're not the ideal space for solemn observations on the fragility of life. But it truly is fragile. And Sean is an earnest and sweet and sincere human being, an intrical part of our close-knit staff. This isn't something that is supposed to happen.

Once we find out more about Sean's health, we'll post about it here. There will likely be a benefit of some sort in the coming months as well.

    Please be safe out there.

  • Rollin' Gold

Do you have a bicycle? Something gold to wear? Well, good. You're going to love the Rollin' Gold ride, part of this year's Pedalpalooza extravaganza.

On Saturday June 6 at 4pm, this family-friendly ride starts at NW 17th Ave and NW Lovejoy, the headquarters of Circa Cycles. All riders are encouraged to wear something/anything gold—these totally count, by the way. From the Circa HQ, you will ride north and eventually arrive at your destination, the Old Gold. Once here, you can relax after your (not that) grueling ride, and enjoy drink discounts on the patio.
